THRISSUR, Jan 20, 2006:

An activist of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was hacked to death at Elavathur, near Pavaratty, in Trichur  district on Friday morning. The police said the deceased was Mujeeb Rahman, 28, of Thirunelloor, Mullassery.

Another party worker, Jaleel, who was with him, was also hacked, and he is undergoing treatment in hospital. The assailants had come on motorcycles. The CPI (M) alleged that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was behind the attack. The CPI (M) has called for a hartal in Manalur assembly segment on satrurday in protest against the murder.
