New Delhi: A shocking case has been reported in the power corridors of Delhi. A group of 11 Shiv Sena MPs allegedly abused and forced a Muslim catering supervisor at the Maharashtra Sadan to break his Ramzan fast and eat a chapati.
The MPs were reportedly miffed at not being served Maharashtrian food at the Maharashtra Sadan. Within hours of the incident, the Indian Railways subsidiary that was catering for the Sadan, stopped all its operations in protest.
It has written to the Maharashtra Resident Commissioner saying the employee was 'deeply hurt'.
IRCTC sources said that this was not the only case but there have been other cases of abuse of staff too. "This isn't an isolated incident, we had complained about physical assault on the staffers on two other occasions in the past. We complained to the Resident Commissioner, but no action was taken, so we were left with no option but to withdraw services," sources said.
The Maharashtra Sadan has apologised to the employee even as the Shiv Sena has denied the incident. "This is false news. Whoever gave the news has given false information. I request that religious sentiments not be played with and that strict action be taken against whoever did this. If it happened earlier, why is he complaining only now? All these are lies," Sena MP Arvind Sawant said.
"This is unfortunate incident. One must be sensitive about religious issues. This should be probed," said NCP leader Majid Memon.
The issue also hit Parliament with the Lok Sabha opening with an uproar on Wednesday. The Speaker has said that she will allow a discussion on the issue in the Zero Hour.
