A local leader of the SFI and several activists of the Campus Front (the student wing of the NDF) were injured in a series of clashes between the two sections in the city on Friday.
SFI leader Harikumar and Campus Front activist Anwar, who suffered serious injuries, have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital here.
The violence broke out after SFI activists prevented Campus Front activists from distributing pamphlets against ragging in front of the University College on Thursday morning.
Five Campus Front activists including Anwar suffered injuries in the attack. Four of them were admitted to the General Hospital.
The SFI activists also tried to manhandle mediapersons who reached the spot.
Following the incident, a gang of about 20 suspected NDF activists attacked SFI leader Harikumar in the evening while he was on his way to visit some of the SFI activists who had been admitted to the Ayurveda College Hospital with minor injuries sustained in the clashes.
The gang disappeared from the spot immediately. Harikumar suffered fractures on the shoulder and injuries on his back.
The Cantonment and Vanchiyoor police have registered separate cases.
