Human rights fellowship for young journalists

Scholarship  involves a four-week stint at the 62 nd session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13 March 2006.

CGK Reddy Fellowship for Young Journalists

The C. Ramalinga Reddy Educational Trust and the South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre invite applications for the CGK Reddy Fellowship for Young Journalists (2006) from mediapersons with a proven record of commitment to human rights issues.

The Fellowship will involve a two-week orientation period at the office of the South Asia Human Rights Documentation Centre in New Delhi followed by a four-week stint at the 62 nd session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, to be held in Geneva, Switzerland, from 13 March 2006. It will cover all travel and living expenses in New Delhi and Geneva for the duration of the Fellowship.

The CGK Reddy Fellow will work as part of a team comprising SAHRDC staff and interns from the Human Rights Documentation Center (HRDC). Apart from monitoring the proceedings of the Commission on Human Rights, the Fellow will work on a weekly newspaper to be brought out by the SAHRDC-HRDC team. Applications are invited from mediapersons, preferably under 40 years of age, working in the English language media as well as those in the Indian language media having a sound working knowledge of English. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed either in New Delhi or Bangalore.
 
All applicants must send a CV and a 300-word statement indicating their reasons for applying for the Fellowship. Additionally, print journalists must send photocopies of published articles on human rights-related issues. Electronic media journalists may send audio/video clips of their work.
