Tantrik murders 13-yr-old
Lucknow: Sunita Raidas only had a slight fever and a cold. But the 13-year-old was killed by a tantrik on Thursday night during a ritual designed to drive out the seven witches which the tantrik claimed had possessed the girl and were causing the problem. The incident took place in Kushari village of Unnao district.
According to reports, Sunita suffered from fever and recurrent headaches for the past fortnight. Her mother Shanti, first took her to the Primary Health centre at Nawabganj but when the girl failed to find relief, took the girl to a tantrik, Vishwanath Pasi.
Pasi declared that Sunita was possessed by seven witches and they had to be driven away if the girl was to be cured. The cure was to be effected through a yaga when Pasi started smashing the girl’s head against her mother’s and then against a wall. After half a dozen smashes, Pasi declared that six witches had departed.
Shanti took an unconscious Sunita home but she died a few hours later. Angry neighbours who then went looking for the tantrik found that he was absconding.
Shanti has since been trying to lodge an FIR against the tantrik for killing her only child, at the Sohramau police station. But Y N Sharma, officer in charge of the station says, “The girl was ill for many days. It needs to be investigated whether her death was caused by illness or by the tantrik.”
