A court here today found guilty 5 of the 6, RSS-BJP workers accused in the murder of a merchant, Therakkunnummal Ahammed (45).
Delivering the order amidst tight security measures, Additional sessions Fast track 1 judge A.A. Vijayan said the sentences in the case would be pronounced on tomorrow. Kolavaloor Chittarithottil T.Ahmed , was stabbed to death by a group of RSS-BJP activists near his shop on a hartal day, March 26, 1995. The hartal was called by BJP and Ahmed was chased and murdered near a well as "his shop was open for public"
The court found 5 RSS-BJP workers guilty of committing the crime under various sections of IPC, including section 302 (murder). They are Kolavaloor Puthanpurayil Nathankandi Sathyan (35), Valiyaparambathu Karyaramban Kunjhikannan (45), Puthanpurayil Balan (38), Kakkodu Vattolintavide Kunjhikannan (35), Kombantavide Shaji (29).
The 6th one accused in the case, Kottantavide Rajan was found not guilty by the court.
As a result of the pressure exerted on them by sangh parivar militants, First and second key witnesses turned hostile during the trial. But 5th, 6th and 7th eye witness reports backed the prosecution arguments. Mr. K.E. Gangadharan was the Special Public Prosecutor to this case.
