Docs injured in clash with cops over train seats

Lucknow: Several doctors were injured in a clash with a group of Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) jawans in the Meerut-Allahabad Nauchandi Express near Moradabad, leading to strike by medics in many medical colleges across the state on Monday, sources said in Lucknow.

The trouble started when some doctors, returning from Meerut after a post-graduate medical entrance exam on Sunday night, asked PAC jawans to vacate reserved seats in the S-3 coach. The PAC personnel, however, refused and instead allegedly beat up the doctors and some passengers.
When the train reached Moradabad, more PAC personnel entered the compartment and both sides fought a pitched battle in the running train.
Additional SP (GRP, Rampur) Amitabh Yash said some doctors were seriously injured. Agitated doctors in Allahabad, Meerut and Gorakhpur went on strike. The UP government suspended four GRP constables and issued instructions to identify the PAC jawans involved in the clash
