Tribal woman’s death: Axe falls on inspector
HYDERABAD: An inspector of the Prohibition and Excise Department was placed under suspension in connection with the death of a tribal woman in custody of excise police at Saroornagar early on Sunday.
The Cyberabad police booked criminal cases against nine personnel of the excise department, including the inspector in-charge B Krishna, two sub-inspectors – K Srinivas Reddy and R Ravinder Reddy – and six constables based on a complaint lodged by the victim Nanavat Bujji’s family members.
Secretary to commissioner (excise) I S S Naresh told The Times of India on Monday that Krishna was placed under suspension after a preliminary inquiry was conducted on the incident.
Further action would be taken only after getting the postmortem report, he said.
Bujji, 40, a native of Devarakonda in Nalgonda, was taken into custody by the excise department police on Friday on charges of smuggling illicit distilled (ID) liquor to the city.
