SULTHAN BATHERY: The activists of the Karshaka Samara Kendram, the farmers’ arm of Porattom, an extremist outfit, carried out surprise attacks on two banks in the district here on Monday, in protest against the anti-farmer policies pursued by the banks.
The simultaneous attacks, carried out at around 2 p.m., were targeted at the South Malabar Gramin Bank at Padichira near Pulppalli and the North Malabar Gramin Bank at Mananthavadi.The agitators shouted slogans against the anti-farmer policies of the banks and left pamphlets demanding total write-off of loans taken by farmers, said eyewitnesses.
At Mullankolli, about seven Porattom activists barged into the South Malabar Gramin Bank, shouting slogans. They shattered the windowpanes, shelves and furniture of the bank.
