Ragging case: students seek CBI probe

Kochi: The Kerala High Court was approached on Wednesday by four senior students of the School of Medical Education (SME), Institute of Nursing, Kottayam, seeking CBI probe into the case relating to the alleged rape and ragging of a girl student. The petition has been filed by Subin P. Daniel and three other third-year students. According to them, no such incident had taken place in the institute as alleged by the girl.

They said that the entire incident and case had been cooked up as part of a conspiracy by someone with “ulterior motives” to tarnish the name of the institute. The entire case had been a fabricated one. The investigation was being conducted in a biased and improper manner, they said.

They claimed that the inquiry team constituted by the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University had found that the allegation of rape and ragging was false.Even the six students arraigned as accused in the case had pleaded before the magistrate court that they be subjected to polygraph and brain mapping tests. According to the petitioners, the police could not conduct the investigation in a scientific manner.

If the investigation was conducted in a scientific and impartial manner, the real truth could be unearthed. The entire falsification of evidence and falsity of allegations could be brought to light if the investigation was handed over to the CBI.
