Jaipur, Jan. 19. — If you have any pre-conceived notion about the speed of justice delivery in the Indian judiciary, you may well have to do a rethink. Mahender Singh Jat, was accused of molesting Brirish tourist Ms Tara Morton and he was convicted within a day.
This is perhaps the fastest judgement in the world. A lower court in Rajasthan sentences him to one year’s rigorous imprisonment. Ms Morton had gone to see the fresco work in Nawalgarh of Jhunjhunu district. Though the accused was her guide, he reportedly molested and tried to overpower her at around 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The victim, somehow, succeeded in freeing herself from his clutches. Ms Morton and her husband lodged a complaint at about 7.30 p.m. Within half an hour the police arrested the accused and filed the chargesheet against him at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. The hearing of the case began at 12 noon and the accused was sentenced by the upper chief magistrate, Mr Ramesh Chandra Sharma at 2.30 p.m. — SNS
