The woman and her minor children were torched to death on December 31 night after her husband Vijendra Mahto refused to withdraw a police complaint for the theft of a buffalo. The victims are from the most backward sections while, the accused allegedly belonged to the powerful backward caste of Yadavs. Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Tirhut range Gupteshwar Pandey said that police would file a charge sheet in a court against all the 11 accused next week. Last week police attached their property after the Vaisali district court ordered attachment of the properties of the accused.
