PARALAKHEMUNDI, ORISSA, Jan. 19. — Tension is prevailing at Ranalai in R Udayagiri, Gajapati after one cow raised by a villager was found killed and another injured by some miscreants. The animals owned by Mr Trinath Paik were kept in the backyard of his house and it were found missing from Saturday morning.
Mr Trinath Paik had informed the matter to other villagers who started a search for the animals. They had found one animal in a wounded condition and recovered the remains of the other cow in a field belonging to one Damburu Ghadai. The matter was referred to the village peace committee in which the elected representatives also participated.
The meeting had resolved to lodge a complaint with the police. Acting on the complaint, the R Udayagiri police led by the SI, Mr Ranjan Kumar Mallick and ASI Mr Benudhar Parida rushed to the village and started an investigation into the incident. The police team has detained one person in connection with the incident.
The Ranalai village had witnessed communal tension a few years back and it was with great difficulty the peace was restored there thanks to the initiative of the district administration, police and the local peace committee.
