On behalf of Mr Nayak , his lawyer Mr S Gupte today moved the Bombay High Court for anticipatory bail but was directed to first try at the sessions court. The ACB , meanwhile, arrested one of his close associates Mr P Mannivelam today. He is said to be a director in Deve Paints, one of the benami companies held by the fugitive. His wife is also being detained for questioning since two days.
If Mr Nayak does not surrender, his wife Komal is likely to be arrested as she also runs Ojus Finance company. Some of his patrons, including some politicians and some IPS officers fear that the unscrupulous absconder will spill the beans after his arrest. Sources in the Mumbai police say “Daya” could not have got away with all these without the connivance of some of his senior IPS officers. His senior, inspector Mr Pradeep Sharma, an encounter specialist, has also been summoned.
For instance, when he built a school in his mother’s name at a cost of Rs 1 crore, Mr Nayak said he had collected donations from “well-wishers”
