Thiruvananthapuram: It’s been officially confirmed that Indian emigrant worker Abdul Latheef Naushad’s eye will not be removed under a Saudi court sentence for causing partial blindness to a Saudi national. Indian Ambassador M O H Farooq yesterday apprised the Indian Government that the Saudi national had pardoned his assailant, said Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed in New Delhi. However, there was no further information on how long Naushad would have to remain in jail as part of the punishment. Naushad’s wife Suhaila and daughter Ashna, who had reached Delhi with a mercy petition, would have to return without meeting the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. Ministry sources had declined permission citing protocol.
