ANGUL, Jan. 25. — Two dacoits were killed and three others of a 15-member gang injured when a bomb carried by them had gone off accidentally at Badkera village under the Bantala police station yesterday.
Villagers woke up on hearing the blast and captured four members of the gang and handed them over to the police. A dacoit called Chadhei Sahu died on the spot while another man Kabi Behera succumbed to the injury at the hospital today. Three others – Hari Nayak, Bholeswar Nath and the gang leader, Mathura Naik — have sustained severe burn injuries.
Angul superintendent of police Mr Sanjay Kumar Singh said that the injured gang leader Mathura Naik was a notorious history sheeter. These 15-member gang came to the house of Arakhita Sahoo of the same village to plan the heist, but before they could do so the bomb went off prematurely, the police revealed.
Police seized 14 bombs and other weapons from the gang. The dacoits were from Dhenkanal district, police said.
