Kohima: Militant group National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) has decided to defer ‘tax collections’ for the next financial year in areas it refers to as ‘Nagalim’.
‘Nagalim’ or ‘Greater Nagaland’ comprises Nagaland and surrounding Naga inhabited areas. A statement issued by the NSCN(I-M), which is holding peace negotiations with the Centre, said, “The outfit has deferred collection of taxes from business establishments and well-wishers throughout Nagalim for the next financial year from April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007.”
The statement received in Nagaland capital Kohima on Wednesday said the organisation directed all its ‘tax collectors’ to comply with the directive. When contacted, a businessman in Kohima said the decision has come as a relief. However, he was worried that the outfit would impose other kind of taxes on businessmen.
