Nayak gets more protection, Sharma quizzed

MUMBAI/ PUNE, Jan. 27. — A special court today extended interim protection to suspended police Sub-Inspector Daya Nayak, his wife Komal and associate Rajendra Padte till 30 January by restraining Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) from arresting them in a disproportionate assets case. The court also asked them to appear in person on 30 January while restraining ACB from arresting them until their plea for anticipatory bail was heard.
On the other hand, “encounter specialist” and Mumbai Crime Branch senior inspector Pradeep Sharma today presented himself here before the CID, which is investigating the case of the mysterious disappearance of 2002 Ghatkopar bomb blast accused Khwaja Younus from police custody.
Police have claimed that a handcuffed Younus had escaped in January 2003 when his jeep met with an accident in Ahmednagar. — PTI
