DURGAPUR, Jan. 27. — A Tricolour put up carelessly and a Tricolour put up properly, but forgotten subsequently. These are “small matters” indeed for officials busy with the administration of a district as large as Bardhaman or police officers busy with maintaining the law and order scenario in the respective areas of operation. But the officials and the residents of Asansol-Durgapur sub-divisions may not take it as lightly as they wish.
It was during Republic Day yesterday at the state-owned Durgapur Projects Limited’s own hospital, that the MD of DPL, Mr SP Dutta, hoisted a reversed Tricolur, leaving the onlookers not the least amused. The trade unions were also unsparing in their criticism. The Intuc brought the matter to the notice of DM, Bardhaman.
An Intuc leader alleged the MD is casual in such matters and he did not pay attention to the matter too. The flag, however, was brought down and hoisted properly later.
But then, in Viswakarma Nagar Post Office in Durgapur, a Tricolour put up upside down remained in that way throughout the day. There was, unfortunately, no one to rectify the dishonour to the National Flag. The post office was closed under the NI Act.
And at Bidhan Bagh Post Office, near Raniganj town, a Tricolour was seen flying till 10 at night till local youths protested against “the negligence on the part of authorities.”
