DSP Caught Asking for Bribe Absconding

Patna: January 24, 2006, Patna Daily

Declaring the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sheel Kumar Chandra an absconder, the state police launched a manhunt to nab the cop who was caught red-handed demanding bribe from none other than the state Transport Minister Ajit Kumar in a covert operation to bust police-criminal nexus.

The minister, posing as a truck driver, was stopped by Chandra in Nawada district. His truck was siezed by the DSP who then demanded Rs. 50,000 in bribe money as his price for releasing the truck. When the minister in disguise expressed his inability to pay the desired amount, the DSP quickly ‘reduced his price’ from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 35,000.

The minister taped the entire conversation, reports said.

An FIR was later lodged with the Nawada police.

Arvind Pandey, the DIG, Magadh Range, said a manhunt had been launched to nab the fleeing DSP.
