Saturday January 28 2006

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Three police officials who were suspended from service in connection with the impersonation drama on the Vanchiyoor court premises here have been reinstated.

The reinstated policemen are former circle-inspector of Pettah police station Thampi S.Durgadatt, additional sub-inspector of Vanchiyoor police station C.Vijayan and police constable of Control Room Gopakumar. While Thampi S.Durgadatt is posted at the State Crime Records Bureau, the others have been posted at the police Control Room here.

IG South Zone T.P.Senkumar, who issued the orders in this regard the other day, said that the suspension of these three were revoked on the basis of the inquiry conducted by Kollam SP Santosh Verma.

Technically the three officials had not committed any offence. Hence the decision to revoke their suspension.

The three officials had also given representations to the IG requesting that their suspensions may be revoked. Durgadatt was also the leader of the Police Officers Association.

The three were suspended from service on October 10 following a deliberate attempt to shield the accused in the custodial death of one Udayakumar at the Fort Police station here.

An impersonation drama was also staged on the court premises allegedly with the connivance of the CI in order to divert the attention of the media from the accused. The incident occurred on October 4.

The accused policemen in the custodial death case had recently received bail after the Crime Branch team probing the case failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated period.
