Mangalore, Jan 25: In another incident of Bajrang Dal activists going on a rampage spree, a house was ransacked at Kattinja in Bondantila village near Neermarga here on Monday January 24. A car and a motorcycle belonging to the house-owner also have been heavily damaged.
In a complaint filed at Kankanady police station, Alwyn Maben, the house owner has stated that a group of 15-20 Bajrang Dal activists forcibly entered his house and damaged furniture and valuables. On the other hand, the Bajrangdal activists complained that Alwyn was involved in conversion activity under the New Life banner for sometime now.
They further stated that earlier he used to conduct his prayer sessions in his home itself. But after a warning, he has been conducting them in some other place and is proselytizing the people.
However, the some of the locals gave another version of the story. The man behind Monday’s attack on Alwyn’s house, Umesh is said to have been accused of teasing a Christian girl of the same vicinity earlier. When the said girl complained about this, Alwyn Maben had stood by the girl in proving Umesh guilty. From then Umesh is said to have been waiting for an opportunity to avenge his defeat.
Though a complaint has been lodged, no one right now knows as what is the exact reason behind the Monday’s act. But some of the locals were of the opinion that even if Alwyn was involved in conversion activities, there were police to take the legal action, instead of Bajrang Dal activists taking law into their hands. Many residents wondered if the rule of law existed in the state and what right any organization had to enter a private residence and ransack on the pretext of converting the locals to another religion.
