Dhar (MP), Jan. 29. — Securty was tightened with the deployment of additional forces near the controversial Bhojshala here for Vasant Panchami on 3 February to prevent any untoward incident as the festival coincides with Friday when Muslims offer namaz in the complex. Besides plans to deploy 15 companies of police, SPs of Khandwa, Jhabua and Betul are also likely to be present here during the festival. — PTI

CHANDIGARH, Jan. 29. — An unexpected appearance of Shiromani Akali Dal president Mr Parkash Singh Badal at the wedding of Mr Prem Singh Chandumajra’s son today sent out fresh hopes of Akali unity before the Assembly elections in Punab. AMBALA (Haryana), Jan. 29. — The deportation of a
Babbar Khalsa militant wanted in connection with a failed plot to assassinate former Haryana chief minister Mr Bhajan Lal in 1995 has been put off after he filed an appeal in a London court. Purushottam Singh’s deportation was stalled yesterday after he filed an appeal against it,SSP (Ambala) Mr Rajbir Deswal said here today. Singh is a resident of the district and was nabbed two weeks back, he said. —PTI

Fire on train

SAMASTIPUR, Jan. 29. — The engine of 5708 DN Amritsar-Katihar Amrapali Express was badly damaged in a fire on Muzaffarpur-Samastipur section of East Central Railway this evening, rail sources said. Fire was noticed three km ahead of Karpoorigram station by the escort party who alerted the guard. The driver stopped the train at Karpoorigram station. — PTI
