Ahmedabad, Feb. 1 (PTI): Employees of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) at the Sardar Patel airport here on Tuesday began agitation outside the building premises in the wake of government’s decision to go ahead with its privatisation plans of Mumbai and Delhi airports, sources in the airport said.
Hundreds of employees who are members of the officers and employees unions held protest demostrations and shouted slogans decrying Union Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, sources said.
"Our protest has already begun. But the course of action to be taken will be decided after we hear from our convenor who is in Delhi. There are 330 employees who are protesting," J G Desai, Secretary of the joint forum, said.
Desai, however, said that employees of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) were not part of this agitation and the operations of the ATC would not be affected at all.
Ahmedabad Airport Director, A Avasthi, said when contacted regarding the protests that began, "we have not got any official intimaton from the AAI joint forum regarding the strike. As of now, some protests have begun, but operations have not been affected."
