PTI, Ghaziabad: An antique idol of Lord Rama worth Rs 70 lakh has been seized from two persons and said to have been procured from Gorakhpur, a police official said on Tuesday.
The idol, made of an alloy of eight metals called ‘ashtadhatu’, was seized by the Link Road police on Monday from Umesh and Joginder who both hail from Modinagar in the district, Senior Superintendent of Police J N Singh said.
He said the idol could fetch about Rs 70 lakh in the international market and the accused had been kept in custody for further interrogation.
They told police that they had bought the Rama idol from someone in Gorakhpur.
The seizure closely follows the recovery of an antique idol of Lord Krishna valued at Rs 1 crore on Saturday from one Lokesh, who claimed to have bought it in Nepal.
