GULBARGA: The Mahanta Jyothi Prathisthan has urged the Zilla Kannada Sahitya Parishat to elect a writer from dalit community as the chairman of the proposed ninth zilla Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held at Abbe Tumkur in Yadgir taluk in March.
Prathisthan Chairman Prof.Shivaraj Patil said in the last eight literary conferences not a single dalit has been made as the chairman and it was high time the tardition was broken and social justice ensured by making a writer belonging to the dalit community as the chairman.
He has written a letter to Zilla Sahitya Parishat President Veerabhadra Simpi in this regard.
In the past eight sammelans literary personalities belonging to the Lingayat community have had the lion share with as many as five of them having enjoyed the honour.
They are Dr Ja Cha Ni, Dr.Shailaja Udachan, B Mahadevappa, Revanasiddhaiah Rudraswamy Mutt and Dr M G Biradar.
Two writers belonging to backward class community have been made sammelan presidents in the past and they are Dr.Chennanna Walikar and Geetha Nagbhushan.
There has been a lone Brahmin writer Bhimsen Rao Tavag who had the honour as the chairman of the second zilla sahitya sammelan.
