National Child Rights Protection Commission On Way

New Delhi, Jan 31 (UNI) The government today announced its decision to set up a National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, but did not indicate a time schedule. n announcement said ”later, the states will also be authorised to set up similar commissions to ensure better protection of children.” An official statement said the Commission would study and monitor matters relating to the constitutional and legal rights of children.
It will examine and review the safeguards provided by law to protect child rights and recommend measures for their effective implementation in the best interest of children, the statement said.
The Commission will also review the existing laws and suggest amendments if needed, it said.
It will look into complaints or take suo motu notice of cases involving violation of constitutional and legal rights of the children, the statement said.It said the Commission would monitor implementation of laws and programmes relating to the survival, welfare and development of children. This is not the first time the authorities have decided to form a Commission for children. A National Commission for Children– intended as an independent ombudsman to protect their interests– was announced by the government three years ago
