Christian Council suspects motive behind 'Kumbh Mela'

Hyderabad: The All Indian Christian Council (AICC) has urged the Union Home Ministry to deploy Central forces in Dangs in Gujarat, to avert a possible attack on the Minority Christian Community’ during the Kumbh Mela sabri there from February 11 to 13.

In a representation to the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, it sought his intervention to protect the Minority community in Gujarat, AICC national president Dr Rev Joseph D Souza and President of its AP unit Dr Rev G Samuel said in a joint statement here today.

The AICC alleged that the Sangh Pariwar’s new invention of the fifth Kumbh Mela-Sabri was aimed at intimidating and indulging in forceful conversions of Tribal Christians. Several reports from non-Christian NGOs also echo the apprehensions, they said.

The AICC stated that their apprehensions had already come true with the recent series of violent attacks against the Christian Community in Madhya Pradesh. The Christian organisations also expressed fear that it would be the beginning of turning Madhya Pradesh into another Gujarat
