Dalit Leaders Accuse Police Apathy in the Rape Case of Minor Girl

Mangalore, Feb 2: A decision has been taken by Dalit organization representatives, to file a criminal case against A Subrahmanya Rao, assistant superintendent of police, Puttur, for not registering a rape case of a student of seventh standard, in spite of questioning the girl for five days from January 13.

The victim studying in a school at Nerla, was raped at Ichilampady in Puttur taluk, earlier in the month of January.

Lolaksha, president, Federation of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes Organizations, Dakshina Kannada, also sought action against the school authorities for not taking action when the student informed them of the incident. No FIR had been registered till Monday January 30 evening, even though the incident was significantly highlighted at a monthly meeting of the Dalits, convened by the Police Department on Sunday January 29, he said.

B Dayananda, superintendent of police, said that the department is leaving no stone unturned to nab the guilty.
