VISAKHAPATNAM : Penchant for working in a foreign land is often landing gullible youth in the trap of unscrupulous agents who are cheating them.

Eight youths from Visakhapatnam, Anakapalle and Bhimavaram, who gave around Rs.75,000 each to an agent, realised on going abroad that they were cheated. While four of them managed to return to the city, the rest are under house arrest in Malaysia.

The accused — Jeevan Kumar, an agent residing in Lakshmi Nagar in Gopalapatnam – allegedly collected the amount from the youths promising to secure them jobs in a five-star hotel in Malaysia. The youths were first sent to Chennai and from there to Malaysia on October 29, 2005 by another agent Subrahmanyam. On reaching there, they were introduced to another agent Cheliyan who in turn handed them over to a local agent Lichian. The youths were given petty jobs in `Taj Carry House’, a small hotel in Malaysia.
