BELGAUM: Protesting against deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa for removing the portraits of Dr B R Ambedkar and former late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from his office, the dalit organisations of the district will stage a dharna in the district on Feb 13.
As part of the protest all the Dalit localities in the district will hoist with balck flags on Feb 8.
Several dalit leaders including Ashok Ainavar, Mahdev Myaginmani who addressed the meeting convened at Dr B R Ambedkar garden on Sunday criticised Yediyurappa for removing the portraits of Ambedkar and Indira.
As expected BJP had proved that it was the party of anti-dalits, the leaders said adding that the BJP men did not have respect for the above leaders. They said Yediyurappa was a mean minded person and he was unfit for the post of deputy chief minister for the state a like Karnataka where there was a great respect for dalit and downtrodden communities.
They said that he had removed the portraits so as to please the upper caste persons of his party.
Dalits would launch statewide agitation if the portraits were not refixed at the office of deputy chief minister soon, they said.
They would take out a protest rally on Feb 13 that would commence from Ambedkar garden and would pass through important roads. Later they would burn the effigy of Yediyurappa at Sambhaji garden and would hold a public meeting there. They would proceed to the deputy commissioner’s office to submit a memorandum.
About 15,000 activists of various dalit orgnaisation would participate in the dharna, theys said.
M R Kalpatri, Avinash Pawar, Manohar Muchandi, Sunil Rajas, Kallappa Metri and Santosh Madigar were present.
