Efforts on to unify Dalits in Karnataka

Hubli: After various factions of farmers organisations, now it is the turn of Dalit groups to commence dialogue to unite in the State.  Addressing a press conference here, Karnataka Rajya Dalit Sangharsha Samiti State Convener Laxminarayan Nagwar said representatives of all Dalit outfits in the State would meet at late Dalit leader Basavalingappa’s ‘Chaitanya Bhoomi’ in Bangalore on February 19 and commence discussions towards unification of all factions.

He said this was necessitated following casteist and communal forces uniting to form a coalition Government, led by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa.

Mr Nagwar said the removal of a portrait of Dr B R Ambedkar from Mr Yediyurappa’s office clearly showed the ”anti-Dalit” mindset of the Government. ”Efforts will be made to defeat these communal and casteist forces during the discussions at Chaitanya Bhoomi,” he added.
