Kerala road accidents claim 14,000 lives in 4 years

Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 14,729 people had been killed in road accidents in Kerala during 2001-2005. This was disclosed by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a written reply to the state assembly.
Over-speeding was found to be the cause for a staggering 1,44,942 road accident cases registered during the period. Drunken driving caused 4,092 accidents and poor condition of roads accounted for 2,560 cases. In 2,842 cases, the vehicles were driven by persons without proper licensee.
