BANGALORE: Uday Kumar, a 32-yearold electrician, has been arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl.
The incident has shocked child welfare organisations, who complain of an increasing trend among minors, particularly children below six years of age, falling prey to rape and other offences. Two months ago, it was a six-yearold girl in Yelahanka. Two weeks ago, a man in Pottery Town lured a threeyear-old with a biscuit before he allegedly raped her. And on Sunday, the bait was a chocolate. According to police, the child had returned home after shopping with her parents. Uday Kumar reportedly lured her with a chocolate and took her to his house. He then raped her even as she was crying in fear and pain. "He had threatened the girl with dire consequences if she spoke about it. But on seeing the girl shivering and crying, her mother sensed something was wrong. She then noticed the child was bleeding," said a police officer investigating the case. The child was taken to hospital where doctors told the mother about the child’s condition. The child later identified Uday Kumar, who was caught and handed over to the police
