Land for tribals; Kerala HC tells Govt to implement agreement

Kochi: Kerala High Court today directed the state government to implement its agreement with the ”Adivasi Samara Samithi” regarding the allocation of land to tribals within a period of six months. Justice Kurian Joseph issued the directive while disposing a writ petition filed by G Sivan and three other tribals of Meppadi Paniya colony in Wayanad district. As per the agreement reached on October 16, 2001, the state government had agreed to allot five acres of land at Pookode and Sugandhagiri to each tribal family. The Government further assured that in other places not less than one acre of land will be alloted to tribals
