More and more Indian women have been flocking to Internet this fiscal even as the count of men browsing the Net has been on the wane during the same period. According to a study by Internet and Mobile Association of India, around 12.32 million online women users registered in the country during 2005-06, increased by four per cent against last year’s figures of 11.85 million.
While the number of male Internet users declined by four per cent to 26.18 million, the total number of online users in the country has increased by 54 per cent at 38.5 million, the study said. The survey said 33 per cent of women are in 18-25 age group, 39 per cent in the 26-35 age group while 21 per cent in the 36-45 age group, 6 per cent in the 46-60 age group and 1 per cent aged more than 60 years.
With India’s internet population poised to reach 100 million by 2007-08 the online male-female ratio is estimated to change to 60:40 by 2007-08 from the current 68:32, it said.
