HC confirms life imprisonment on 6 CPM workers

KOCHI: The Kerala High Court confirmed the life imprisonment of six CPI(M) workers for murdering BJP worker Madakkala Kumaran at Nadapuram in Kozhikode district. A Division Bench comprising Justice J B Koshy and Justice S Siri Jagan dismissed the appeal filed by Babu(34), Raju(30), Kumaran(44), Babu(32), Surendran(26) and Sudhakaran(40), hailing from Valayam, who were convicted by the Kozhikode Sessions Court for the offences, including murder.

The Bench was of the view that the testimony of three eyewitnesses in the case cannot be disbelieved.The prosecution case was that on the midnight of June 29, 1997, the accused formed an unlawful assembly with deadly weapons and trespassed into the house of Madakkala Kumaran and murdered him.The attack was a retaliation for the attack on Padinjarayil Pokken, a member of CPM(M) local committee at Valayam.
