Egged on by Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackery’s call to protest celebrations of Valentine Day tomorrow, a group of the party activists vandalised a showroom at a shopping mall at Lower Parel in south-central Mumbai this evening, police said.
The Sainiks similarly ransacked a shop selling ‘V-Day’ cards in the upmarket business hub in south Mumbai last night. The assault was allegedly led by South Mumbai vibhag pramukh of Shiv Sena Bal Kalsekar.
The agitators today vent their ire by damaging gift articles shaped like ‘Dil’ (heart) on display at the store located in Phoenix Mills compound.
N M Joshi Marg police said four youth were detained on the charge of ransacking the shopping mall store.
The Sena Supremo, in a front-page write-up in the party organ ‘Saamna’ today, called upon the party activists and Hindutava forces across the country to continue their protest against ‘vulgarisation’ of Indian culture through such an event. Sena has been agitating against the V-Day for the last five years.
