Heroin worth Rs.10 mn seized, three arrested

Delhi Police have seized heroin worth Rs.10 million ($226,400) and arrested three people alleged to be involved in the narcotics trade, officials said Monday. The arrests were made in a span of seven days and a special team was sent to Rajasthan to nab the traffickers. The first arrest was made on Feb 5 when we had nabbed a trafficker in Delhi," said A.S. Cheema, deputy commissioner of the narcotics and crime prevention cell. Following the interrogation of the arrested trafficker, Vinay Kumar, a team was sent to Jhalawar in Rajasthan to nab other members of the gang that is suspected to have been active in Delhi, Rajasthan, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka.

Cheema said police had raided the hideouts of the traffickers and arrested Ramesh Gujjar and Rajesh. The leader of the gang, Ram Lal Gujjar, managed to avoid arrest and fled from his hideout before police could reach it. In the past one and a half months, Delhi Police have arrested 21 people and solved 16 cases of drug trade. A total of 7.7 kg of heroin and 21 kg of marijuana were seized during this period, Cheema said.
