KOZHIKODE: The Kerala State Adoptive Families’ Organisation (KAFO) and People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), will jointly initiate a probe into the rackets involved in the sale of infants in the state, KAFO State secretary T.J. Varkey told newspersons here on Saturday.Both the organisations have jointly formed a people’s judicial committee for this purpose. Rights activists Manjeri Sunder Raj, P.A. Pouran, Dr. P. Geetha and Meena Kuruvila are the members. It will submit the report “before the people” within one month.Besides, the organisation has sent letters to the President and the National Human Rights Commission seeking immediate intervention in the issue.The issue of the sale of newborn babies, rampant in some of the hospitals including the Medical College, was brought out by a private television channel recently.The KAFO also revealed that the approved agencies and orphanages are in shortage of children to give for adoption despite deliveries out of illicit relations being reportedly high.
