Claimed his ‘samadhi’ time had come; taken out by cops amid protests
Madurai: A youth, who got himself buried claiming that his ‘samadhi’ time has come, was taken out by the police amidst protests by his devotees and relatives. An electrical engineer, Murali Krishnan (24) attracted a number of devotees with his lectures on spiritualism. He had told his parents and devotees at Rajapalayam town, about 80 km from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, that he would attain ‘samadhi’ on Sunday and they should bury him, police said.He got into the ‘last resting-place’ dug by his devotees in a room behind his house and laid down while his friends put a wooden plank and cemented the pit at 8.30 am. Later, they performed poojas. The incident caused a flutter in the area. Police and revenue officials were informed. They rushed to the spot. Despite strong protests from his relatives and devotees, they exhumed the youth who was unconscious. "We forcibly entered the house and located the samadhi," Deputy Superintendent of Police Mayilvahanan said. The youth was exhumed at 2:15 pm, more than six hours after he was buried. He was hospitalised. Doctors at the government-run Rajaji Hospital said his condition has improved and there is ‘nothing to worry’. "The youth would have practised to control his breath. Otherwise it would not have been possible for him to stay in a pit for six hours, that too after fasting for some days," a doctor said. Police registered a case against the youth for attempting suicide.
