Tension brewed in the Shibpur-Kajipara area under Shibpur police station on Tuesday when some of the daily commuters alleged that the Arabic inscriptions were part of the Koran. The ferry service between Shibpur and Babughat was also stopped for several hours and Foreshore Road was also blocked by the agitators following the incident. The release also said, "Those who published the ferry tickets by tearing pages from the Holy Koran have hurt the feelings of not only Muslims but all religious and peace loving people
."Indian Union Muslim League will observe ‘black day’ on February 17 in protest against the selling of ferry tickets having Arabic inscription on the reverse side. An IUML release said here that they would organise peaceful demonstrations across the state "against the sinister ploy of mischievous elements trying to cause disrepute to Islam."
