Kozhikode: The Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID) has launched investigations into the murder of the A.M. Abdul Kareem, 50, proprietor of a resort at Vythiri in Wayanad district on Sunday.
Senior Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdul Hameed is carrying out the probe under the supervision of Crime Branch Superintendent of Police T.V. Kamalakshan. Earlier, the Thamarassery police attached to the Kozhikode Rural Police was investigating the case. Order in this regard was received at the Crime Branch office on Wednesday.
According to Rural SP C. Sharafudeen, all the files relating to the case and its investigations are being transferred to the Crime Branch officers. So far no one has been taken into custody. Only a few travel agents have been interrogated in the last couple of days, he said.
Abdul Kareem was the owner of `Jungle Park’ and `Green Magic Nature Resorts,’ on Finster Hills at Vythiri, on the Kozhikode-Mysore Highway. Preliminary investigations indicated that hired goons had carried out the murder.
A gang of five persons kidnapped Kareem along with his driver Sivan at the Wayanad ghats at 9.30 p.m. on Saturday. Kareem was found with serious injuries at a rubber estate near Adivaram. He succumbed to his injuries while being taken to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (MCH). Sivan, who suffered head injuries, is still under treatment at the MCH.
