New Delhi: Five BJP ruled states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chattisgarh and Jharkhand will not provide data on Muslim headcount in government and state-run public sector corporations to the Justice Sachar committee, appointed by the Centre.
The party leadership has asked these state governments to actively identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and start the process of deportation. It is, however, not so sure about Bihar and Karnataka, where it shares power with its coalition partners.
The issue rocked the proceedings of both Houses on Friday. While leader of the
Opposition L K Advani said the panel appointed by the Prime Minister’s Office for this purpose "is fraught with dangerous consequences", defence minister Pranab Mukherjee said "there was no question of compromising the character of the Indian Army."
