A Hindu widow and her son have donated four-and-a-half bighas of land for a Muslim burial ground at Anwar Bagan here in North 24 Parganas district.
Inaugurating the burial ground yesterday MP from Kolkata Northeast Md Salim said the state government had spent at least Rs 20 lakh including Rs 3 lakh from the local MLA’s area development fund to provide infrastructural facilities and building a rest room for those attending funerals.
Praising Ms Dhanapati Devi and her son Ramprakash Shaw’s effort, Mr Salim observed that the people of the state inherited fellow feeling irrespective of religious differences.
Mr Salim also expressed apprehension that communal forces were trying to destabilise religious harmony in the country.
