Immolation bid on girl Police intensify probe

MANANTHAVADI: The finger print experts of the Police Department on Thursday collected evidence from the house of the schoolgirl who was reportedly set aflame by a stranger on Wednesday when she resisted his attempt of rape.
The investigation team led by Circle Inspector K B Jeevananth questioned various persons including the relatives and neighbours of the girl in connection with the incident. The girl, a native of Panamaram Panchayat of Wayanad district, has been admitted to the Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode with 50 percent burns. She was earlier admitted to the District Hospital, Mananthavadi and later referred to the MCH for further treatment. According to the victim the incident occurred when she resisted the advances of the stranger. He caught her while she was trying to escape and tied her with a plastic rope. After pouring kerosene he set her on fire. However, she managed to escape and jumped into a pond and later managed to reach her ancestral home.
