Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 16 : The Kerala cabinet today decided to double the compensation to families who lost their children in last year’s tsunami, from Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh. Disclosing this to reporters, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the parents of the children killed had urged the government to raise the relief payment. Staff to get perks: The Cabinet decided to restore benefits lhke DA, HRA and CCA to employees whn joined the state service between January 2002 and May 2003. These benefits were held up during this period as part of curtailing the government expenses. Chandy said about 26,000 employees would benefit from the decision, which included 6000 teachers and other categories of employees working in government aided institutions.
