NEW DELHI, Feb. 18. – The meeting of the National Advisory Council (NAC) today reviewed the right to education Bill, national strategy for manufacturing, regional development and Centre-state relations.
Chaired by Mrs Sonia Gandhi, the meeting discussed the progress of the work of the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC), which has recently finalised a “National Strategy for Manufacturing”. The Strategy addresses the challenges faced by the manufacturing sector in India and aims at achieving a growth rate of 12 per cent in the manufacturing sector in the next decade, as compared to about 7 per cent between 1995 and 2004.
The views of the sub-group of NAC members constituted for the purpose was noted during discussions on the proposed “right to rducation Bill”.
It was clear that legislative and administrative steps on the part of the Union government can satisfy the Fundamental Right to education and fulfill the NCMP commitments in the field of education.
