Kochi: Leader of Opposition, V S Achuthanandan, on Sunday said human rights violation and torture against women has been increasing day by day. Inaugurating a convention of the recently formed ‘organisation’, consisting of judges, advocates, social workers and peoples representatives, to help the women, who becomes victims of torture, Achuthanandan said the formation of such an organisation would be of great support to such people, who has been denied of their rights.
Justice V R Krishan Iyer, named the organisation as ‘Sree Sakthi’. Providing legal assistance to the victims, rehabilitating the victims and to find out proper job for the victims and bring them back to normal life, are the primary aims of the Sree Sakthi.
A 24 member office-bearers have been selected at its meeting, held at Justice V R Krishna Iyer’s residence, here during January last. Justice D Sreedevi is the Chairperson, while Prof Mercy Williams, Mayor of Kochi and P S Shyla, District Panchayat President, are the vice-chairpersons. Mercy George is the General Secretary
