Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Water Resources Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, holding the charge of Health, told the state Assembly that 1,492 confirmed AIDS patients and nearly one lakh HIV positive cases were reported in the State. The Government had not received any complaints about HIV-virus infected blood stored in blood banks in the Government-owned Medical Colleges, he said. The Government had issued necessary orders not to release blood packets before the ”window period”, he said while replying to questions by T.U. Radhakrishnan and others. Radhakrishnan said the Government was giving priority for the care and treatment of AIDs affected children in the State.
The Government would construct a house to the hapless children, Benzy and her younger brother Benson, born HIV positive, as their parents had contracted AIDS. Their parents, Chandy and Mary, had died a couple of years ago at Chathannur in Kollam district. He said if the Government provide separate schools or houses to children affected by the disease, the people keep them away. This should not happen and we should make them a part of the society, he said
